Since September, we have been fortunate to have our Elementary Counseling Support Worker, Mrs. Zureen Kumar working with groups of our students to work on solving problems.  Through small group instruction, Zureen has been working through social situations (eg. playing a game with friends), to highlight issues that arise, take these issues apart, and provide students with ways to peacefully solve problems.  As adults, we often think that these skills just develop naturally as children grow.  While some children seem to learn these rules on their own, others require the direct teaching of these skills, and the opportunity to practice these skills in a safe environment.  As we continue to work through solving problems independently as a school, we will be providing parents with the language that we are using, so they can reinforce these skills at home.
