Garden of Knowledge

Our Tomsett Mural, titled The Garden of Knowledge, is a vibrant expression of Tomsett Elementary School’s commitment to fostering identity and belonging within its diverse community. Rooted in our school’s ongoing story focus, the mural was a collaborative effort involving all of our 21 divisions, as well as our staff and parents. The design features a whimsical natural scene filled with animals, ladybugs, and the iconic “long ago” cherry blossom tree, symbolizing the memories our students have about their school experiences. These experiences make up our community identity.

An ocean scene with salmon pays tribute to our annual trip to Centennial Beach, connecting learning with our students' lived experiences. One student shared during the mural’s unveiling, “Belonging feels like being safe, happy, and comfortable—like you can be yourself without being judged.” The mural’s creation was not only an artistic endeavour but also a celebration of our school’s values, culminating in a joyful community event that highlighted the power of collective voice and visual storytelling to affirm every individual’s place in our school community.
